Performing Arts AGM 2012 6th February

                                          Performing Arts Membership

Being a member of a theatre group is unlike any other club or association. Of course being on stage singing, dancing and acting  is not the only aspect of  theatre and our backstage helpers are just as important as those treading the boards. We have many people who just like to be involved with the theatre in some external fashion and they often help 'front-of-house' during the run of a show, selling tickets, programs etc.

Annual membership of the theatre is very modest and ensures that members are covered by insurance whilst they are involved in the theatre's activities.   Members are put on the mailing list  to keep them informed of theatre news, dates for auditions, productions, social gatherings and monthly meetings.   A membership application form can be down-loaded from the link below.  To be part of the vibrant Arts community in Goondiwindi,  join now!

Hi!  I guess if you are reading this web page you are either interested in the Performing Arts or are considering living in Goondiwindi and want to know what like minded people are doing in this regional oasis called Goondiwindi.  How fortunate you are if Goondiwindi is your destination, as this town has a vibrant Performing Arts community.

                                          History of Performing Arts Goondiwindi

From humble beginnings in the 70’s when a Choral Society and Dramatic society worked hard to satisfy members needs, the groups merged in the 90’s to become  Goondiwindi Performing Arts Inc , an incorporated body better placed to support the thriving Performing Arts scene.

In the 1980’s the group purchased the old “Guide Hut to give it a physical home. This “Hut” is our rehearsal space, our meeting place and a venue used for teaching  performance related skills e.g. a toddler music group uses the Hut as does a primary drama group. In the recent past a singing teacher also taught in the hut.

The group caters for the many and varied interests of its members. In the choral music area, we have Con Brio, One Voice and Encanto.  Visit encanto's website for more about this fabulous singing sensation.  Some of these groups are selective others are not.

Performing Arts has a new collaborative dramatic ensemble, aptly named Red Hot Mama's.  Founded by Pauline Clyne the group begins May 18th, at the Hut.  It will be sizzling stuff!  We also have a play‐reading group, Playmates.

These smaller groups regularly merge to produce a combined performance…it may be a locally written piece incorporating musical numbers and dramatic interludes, a play or a musical.

We are fortunate to have talented local writers, producers, directors and technical lighting and sound experts as members of our group.

While we have much local talent new members are warmly embraced as it’s great to have fresh input and new ideas.  Like many regional areas we have a mobile population and some members move on after a few years for various reasons - it’s wonderful to have new members to take their place.

So if you do decide to come to Goondiwindi or you are already in residence and think the above group sounds like you…come along to any one of our groups.

If you explore the web‐site a little more you will find the groups are explained and their rehearsal times  (2010 ) displayed. This information will be updated if rehearsal times change.

We look forward to welcoming you to Goondiwindi Performing Arts Inc.

Some days there won't be a song in your heart.  Sing anyway.

Acting is merely the art of keeping a large group of people from coughing.
