Accompanist needed
Sadly Encanto's accompanist Katherine Packer is moving on, to of all places, Sudan. Founding member Benita Klowss said the group was looking for a “particular brand of crazy”. “They need to be able to be a part of the same glue that binds us together.” And while that may sound difficult, considering the diversity of the group it might not be as hard as it first appears. “There could be someone new to the town or district or someone who would like to get back into music. “If there is, please contact us,” Benita said. Encanto - The Idea
Concept formed - Late November 2006 by Paddy Martin, Benita Klowss & Sandy Wolfenden. We identified that there was a need for a small ensemble of a high standard and there was a willingness of participants to create this group.
Group formed - February 3rd 2007. Weeks of discussion ensued to select a name. “En Canto” means “in/with song”.
The 'get to know you period' – Throughout 2007 the group took time to get to know each other, both musically and on a personal level to ensure we have a cohesive, tight knit group. During this time we were able to ensure we had a good blend of voices that harmonised well together. This was achieved through a good mix of hard work and social gatherings. We ask the question “Are we singing group with a drinking problem, or a drinking group with a singing problem??!!”
In the Swing of it - En Canto, now in it’s fourth year in 2010, is a solidly established group, having a lot of fun while learning new, exciting & challenging repertoire and is being presented with many performance opportunities.

Charter for Encanto
Aim of group - To develop personal abilities with close vocal harmonies of varying degrees of difficulty, and to produce a satisfactory blend of voices up to and beyond a standard deemed suitable for public performance
Style – The song style of the group is aimed to be more upbeat with a mixture of blues and ballads for a well-balanced repertoire.
Joining group - By advertising for particular voice type (SATB) and/or by invitation to audition from the group leader(s). An invitation to audition does not automatically mean admission to the group.
Group size - Eight to ten people only and as a maximum. To be reviewed on a periodical basis at the behest of the group leader(s).
Rehearsals - Weekly for 7.00 pm on a night best suited to all group members. The location of rehearsals will be decided upon by group members as required. Forward thinking and straightforward talking is encouraged between all members of the group.
Performances - Group initiated performances will be held as and when the situation and repertoire allow. Invitation from other parties to perform at other functions /events will be considered by the group as a whole.

Walgett Art Show
Encanto was hand-picked, after their amazing performance at the Mungindi Music Festival in 2009, to perform at the Walgett Art Show. They performed this weekend to an enraptured audience at the Art Show at the Walgett Showgrounds.
